Physical education in higher education of Ukraine (pedagogical aspect)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of organization and implementation of physical education in higher schools of Ukraine. The analysis of the works of Ukrainian scientists, who have already achieved scientists proves that, unquestionably, higher schools have significant scientific and didactic potential in order to introduce important changes in the modernization of the educational process. For this purpose, according to scientists, it becomes necessary to improve modern physical education curricula in higher education, especially in the context of adjusting the curriculum content to the interests and needs of students, coordinating the state framework curriculum in physical education with curricula and study plans, and increasing financial outlays for research activities in the area, and expansion of material facilities (stadiums, sports fields, swimming, pools, gyms). Despite all the measures taken by the educational authorities of Ukraine in order to improve physical education of students (acts, regulations), this process still has a lot of weaknesses, e.g. unsatisfactory level of health condition of some students, which is the reason for feeble physical fitness; increase in the number of students qualified to special groups due to their health condition; lowering students’ motivation to participate in PE classes, to do physical recreation; old-fashioned teaching infrastructure in some of the Ukrainian schools, and others.
