Musical education of students in grades 1-4 in primary schools of Ukraine

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problems of musical education of primary school students in grades 1-4. The organization of the teaching process provides for integrated classes for grades 1-4 (in grades 1-2 – with a predominance of games and activities). Music education in the younger grades has been divided into two cycles: grades 1-2 and grades 3-4. In schools, music lessons use three forms of teaching: choral singing, learning the basics of musical notation, and listening to music. Teachers also conduct classes with the use of playing musical instruments as well as movement games and music games. Music lessons at school are conducted in music classes, in special rooms equipped with the appropriate equipment and teaching aids. The concept of musical education for students in Ukraine is based on developing student’s interest and love for folk and classical music as well as developing musical talents. Popular music groups are popular among students, where students usually play such musical instruments as bagpipes, accordions, violins, guitars, drums, and others. Optional hours are devoted to organizing meetings with local musicians, excursions, and taking part in concerts and music festivals.
