For many decades preceding the outbreak of World War I, Polish firefighters sought to create an organization that would unite individual fire brigades into unions. Despite the hostility of the partitioning powers, they were established after strenuous and long-lasting efforts.
– In the Prussian partition, on July 19, 1863 - the Association of Fire and Rescue Societies as well as Municipal and Rural Communes of Silesia and Poznań was established, with its seat in Wrocław. On October 18, 1891, this union was divided into:
– Provincial Union of Fire Brigades in Poznań,
– Provincial Association of Fire Brigades in Upper Silesia, with its seat in Wroclaw.
–– In the Austrian partition, on September 30, 1875 - the National Association
of Volunteer Fire Brigades in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria
with the Grand Duchy of Kraków, with its seat in Lviv, was
established.
– In the province of East Prussia on October 10, 1875 - the East-Prussian Provincial Union of Volunteer Fire Brigades was established, with its seat in Bartoszyce.
– In the Prussian partition, on July 4, 1880 - the Pomeranian Association of Provincial Fire Brigades was established, with its seat in Gdańsk.
– In the Russian partition, on September 9, 1916, the Florian Union was established, with its seat in Warsaw.
