Learned helplessness in fulfilling social roles as a result of stigmatization of people with disabilities
Abstract

In recent years, there have been many changes in the perception of people with disabilities. However, you can still notice the negative attitude of some environments or individual people to this social group. The sources of this approach can be traced in the mechanisms of human functioning, explained by various psychological and sociological concepts. Activation of these mechanisms has negative consequences for the development and life of people with disabilities, often blocking their individual activity and willingness to participate in social life. The presented text aims to make readers aware of the principles of these mechanisms, because knowledge on this subject can make many people realize the irrationality of their own behavior and change their own approach to people with disabilities.
